An ancient curse, an ancient druid, and three young siblings visiting family in Ireland, what could go wrong?

This book, the first In McCauley’s Rituals series, follows the classic faerie tale plot. A normal world that piece by piece unravels around the main character, Catherine, as she learns of the power she holds and the price she will pay for using it.

Keeper of a dire curse, Bowen, knows that Catherine is the key to everything. When she inadvertently frees the ancient druid, Conall, and loses her sister to their crazed attack, she swears to have her revenge.

But is vengeance enough?

While I would have loved to see more character development and atmosphere, the worldbuilding in McCaulay’s novel is good and the story shows all the elements of great fantasy.

Definitely a great first foray into the fantasy genre. I’ll be looking for more.
